Aces Fold as Pioneers Score Another Seven

Langley Aces 1 Richmond Pioneers 7

- by guest writer Dave Valitis
After the 7-0 win last week, the Pioneers were in an optimistic mood on the roadtrip to Langley. Even Fitz showed up without a hint of the ailments he usually succumbs to this time of year. (Editor's note: I see I'm not the only one who picks on you, JF?)

With a squad of twenty to choose from the hardest thing Mike Mogul had to do was keep everyone happy with his lineup.

The starting eleven produced a goal within four minutes with Alex Aleksic taking a shot from the 18 yard line which took a Frank Lampard-like deflection off a Langley player and into the corner of the net.

The Pioneers had most of the play but were unable to extend their lead, Eddie Eviston and Danny Lazar both hitting the woodwork. At the other end, keeper Gary Byrne on his return had one save to make, tipping a shot around the post. Halftime 1-0 Pioneers.

The second half started in the same fashion as the first with the Pioneers scoring at the four minute mark. This time Eviston was the marksman. This opened up the floodgates as five more goals were scored in relatively quick succession. Eviston completed his hat-trick, with goals also coming from Lazar, Ken Johnston and Jusuf Skrijelj.

Down 7-0, the Aces were awarded an indirect free kick 10 yards out. Bobby Heron at the post was able to clear the goal bound shot and skew it somehow round the opposite post.

Langley never gave up and were rewarded with a late consolation goal which also was deflected, this time just inside the far post.

An enjoyable roadtrip with a good result. I think if we score seven goals a game we won't lose many.

Next week: Home game at Honda Field versus Stingers.
