May 25, 2004 Pioneers Stumble in 2004 Vernon Tournament
The Richmond Pioneers annual visit to the Okanagan to compete in the 2004 Vernon National Old Timers Tournament ended in disappointment as the Pioneers were denied a chance to compete for the prize money, following a 3-1 loss to White Rock in the final round robin game.
The Pioneersa finalist in last years tournamentwere drawn in the 'Group of Death', a foursome that had the top three finishers from last year.

The Pioneers started with a win against the weakest team in the group, but a failure to get the maximum points was a disappointment as the Pioneers domination was not reflected in the final scoreline.

This meeting of last years finalists was a tense affair, with the Pioneers guilty of two defensive lapses that meant they were always chasing the game.

The Pioneers entered the game against the pre-tournament favourites knowing that they needed at least a tie to qualify for Monday's finals. Midway through the second half of this hotly contested encounter, the game looked headed for a 1-1 tie until the referee blew for a penalty kick against the Pioneers, a bizarre call that even confounded the opposition. White Rock would add a late insurance goal to send the Pioneers home early.
