SUMMER 2003 Second Place for Pioneers at Vernon Tournament The Richmond Pioneers came up short in the Over 50 Division at the 2003 Annual Vernon International Tournament, losing 4-1 in the final to Mission, after enjoying a 1-0 lead at half time. In a key opening game, Pioneers fought back to tie Aldergrove 1-1, a result identical to the last time these two teams met at the Aldergrove Tournament. The tie left both teams going for maximum points in their remaining round robin games, to decide who would reach the final. The Pioneers were flawless in their two games, beating Prince George and Concordia by identical 6-0 scorelines to advance to the final against Mission. Despite the disappointing second half collapse, it was a good tournament for the Pioneers. Click on photo below to enlarge.
